Champion Body Painter Cheryl Ann Lipstreu and the Freedom to Choose Art

yes, that’s me as Cheryl Ann’s canvas!

Ringing in the New Year in 2016 was very special. I had the opportunity to be turned into living art by the amazing Cheryl Ann Lipstreu. I recently wrote a post about the entire experience which you can find here. It was an unforgettable occasion with lots of vivid photos to capture the memories.

A few weeks after that experience, I had the opportunity to talk with Cheryl Ann in more detail about how art influences her life and how she identifies with an artisan lifestyle. She calls the artisan life a “mindset” in that one deliberately gets to choose how they want to live their life.

Cheryl Ann has a fascinating story of how she’s dedicated her life to art and just how that dedication has rewarded her with opportunity, recognition and praise. She’s not only the current North American Body Painting Champion, but has participated in competitions globally and been featured on the reality TV show “Skin Wars.”

Tune in below to hear Cheryl Ann’s story and learn how far she has taken her art into the world.

What is Amy Making: Herbal Tinctures

IMG_5850

I tried  my hand at making herbal tinctures from scratch. Basic ingredients include assorted dried herbs and 100 proof vodka.

I made a digestive blend and a liver support blend. Basically, you just mix up dried herbs and fill the mason jar 1/2 full and then fill the jar with vodka to the top.

Shake the jar daily to mix up the contents and in about 3 weeks, the tinctures are ready to use! And the digestive one works like a charm.

Maker’s Challenge: Natural Remedy of Your Choosing

Whether you decide to mix up a tincture or try something simpler, it really doesn’t take too much time to make your own natural remedy. One of my favorite is to make my own toothpaste with baking soda and coconut oil. I add some essential oils for flavor like peppermint or orange. But a half and half mixture of soda and oil will make up a frosting like consistency when mixed and will leave your mouth feeling super clean!
